This year’s multidisciplinary socio-cultural festival by Black History Month Belgium embraces a theme layered with meaning: “B(l)ack to Our Roots.” At Zinnema, we are hosting two evenings where dance, music, spoken word, and visual arts come together to share and celebrate personal and collective migration stories .

Art In Migration I

The evening opens with a Work-In-Progress presentation of Soul   Surface, the first BHM Belgium-supported dance piece by Zoe Hollinshead and Lateef Williams. This evolving performance explores identity, connection, and community through movement.

Next, Pulses and Places by Ausia Jones and Matthew Johnson takes the stage, reflecting on the political nature of art and its power to tell stories, challenge boundaries, and foster recognition.

A panel discussion follows, focusing on the experiences of Black women in the Belgian dance and performance field.

Speakers: Moya Michael, Chris Lange, Zoe Hollinshead, Lateef WilliamsModerator: Marie Umuhoza

We close the night with a DJ set by Kassy, bringing energy and celebration to the dance floor.
